Internet Explorer Still Top Choice for Web-Based Email, But Chrome is Hot On Its Heels

Back in May, Google Chrome overtook Internet Explorer as the internet’s most popular browser, supplanting the ubiquitous Microsoft powerhouse for the first time since it dethroned Netscape Navigator in the browser wars of the late 1990′s.

But what about specifically for checking email online? Turns out, most people still use IE for their electronic mail needs, but Chrome is quickly on the rise and it’s only a matter of time until it leads for mail as well as browsing

As of September 2012, Internet Explorer boasts 51% of online email use. Firefox commands 21% and Chrome comes in third with 14%. However, Chrome has had a 271% increase since March of 2011 while Explorer has had a 15% decline in the same time period.

So it’s only a matter of time until Chrome conquers all.
